The Black Rock Harbor Lighthouse, also known as the Fayerweather Island Lighthouse, is located in the southeast portion of Connecticut at the very end of Fayerweather Island. The first wooden lighthouse there was built in 1808; however in 1821, a storm destroyed it. The current stone lighthouse was built in its place in 1823. The lighthouse was given to the city of Bridgeport in 1934 and was incorporated into Seaside Park. There have been various efforts through fundraising and annual preservation events to help raise money for the lighthouse’s restoration. Kronenberger & Sons has completed Phase I of restoration of the lighthouse including exterior revetment of the stones extending into the surrounding water. KSR was also responsible for replacing the main entrance door that was blown in due to Hurricane Sandy, repointing of the base of the lighthouse, and repainting the windows. We begin phase II in spring of 2018, which will consists of scraping, repainting, and repairing the railing at the top of the lighthouse in addition to renovating the concrete lantern deck.
