The Massachusetts Building at The Big E is one of six buildings dedicated to each state in New England at the Eastern States Exposition. It is an almost perfect replica of the Old Massachusetts Statehouse.

The building was erected In 1918 for $50,000. The building was later dedicated in 1919 by then Governor Calvin Coolidge, and thus launched the official opening of the Avenue of States.

Kronenberger & Sons restored the Massachusetts Building’s full exterior, including cutting and repointing the entire building, installing a new handicap ramp outside, installing a new roof, complete restoration of all windows and trim, and finally painting of all exterior woodwork.

“They took such pride in their work, not only the things you could see but the work buried behind the walls.”
– Marble Mainini, Resident Engineer, Massachusetts Building at The Big E
